Parental Notification
We are often asked if parents need to be notified before our program can be presented to their children. Per the
California Health Education Content Standardsas adopted by the
California State Board of Education in 2008, child abuse is part of the standard curriculum:
- Page 19, grade 4, Standard 1.7.S: Describe ways to seek assistance if worried, abused, or threatened.
- Page 22, grade 4, Standard 7.1.A: Use a variety of effective coping strategies when faced with alcohol, tobacco, and other drug use and abuse by family or friends.
California State Advocacy
for Child Abuse Prevention
- Per the
Health Framework for California Public Schools, as adopted by the California State Board of Education in 2003, page 88, grades 4 - 6:
"Child abuse, including sexual exploitation:
- Students should be aware that no one, not even a parent, has the right to abuse a child or another family member physically. Neglect and child abuse are serious problems that may require outside assistance.
- ... Information on how to resist sexual abuse or exploitation
should also be presented.
- Identifying ways to seek assistance if concerned, abused, or threatened,
including how to overcome fear of telling.
